Gung Hay Fat Choy!
The New Year started off with a mighty roar as my hair caught on fire only moments after midnight! We were posing for a group photo and I backed up too close to the candles on the mantel and within seconds flames were shooting up the back of my head! "You're on FIRE!" my husband shouted as he tried to pat me out. Very little damage was done with the exception a few crunchy, singed off patches in my do and the wretched reak of burning hair permeating my unfortunate friend's home :-(
Always searching for the meaning in everything, when I discovered that 2012 is the year of The Dragon, it became clear to me that it was a dragon that breathed its fire on me on NYE. I have been under its spell ever since!
It is said that: The Year of the Dragon has the potential to breathe life-shaping fire! The dragon is a symbol of power, strength, good luck, innovation and passion. This will be a Red Hot year of Change and Transformation. . . I'm ready. I'm tired of waiting to be discovered, it's time to discover myself.

I know what I want to do, I know what I want to be and this year I will stay true to the path that leads me in that direction. I recently set a goal to enter a National Exhibition and was elated to be accepted to show at the Baton Rouge Museum for Contemporary Art! The show comes down this week, but you can view the catalog HERE (I'm on pg 15). The experience proved to me how important it is to set goals and shoot for them! Next on my list is to show in Los Angeles! I'm zeroing in on The La Luz de Jesus Gallery which has a juried show every March called 'LALUZAPALOOZA'. . .
"The
annual Kitschen Sync show is a gigantic, no-theme exhibition that
consistently features work from the freshest and most relevant artists
working today. We invite commercial illustrators, graphic designers,
tattooists, scenic painters, students, and animators to submit, and
sorted through tens of thousands of submissions before finalizing the
contributor list. The show is open to all artists we have previously
exhibited, as well as to brand-new, undiscovered, and underground
talent. Since opening our doors in 1986, the focus has always been to
grant exposure to emerging talent while continuing to showcase our
established stars. This important annual exhibition is a wonderful forum
for reaching our extensive list of collectors and patrons, and
establishing a fan base beyond your circle of regular buyers. Previous
shows have featured the biggest names in post-pop contemporary art. This
show launches careers, solidifies reputations and has previewed work by
artists showcased in the Whitney Biennial. We look forward
to your submissions, and wish you all the best of luck."
I threw down the gauntlet to my buddy Aaron in a friendly challenge to motivate and inspire one another to aim for La Luz. Here is his Righteous submission:
If one of us gets in it will be a win for both.

See you there!
Do you remember going to the original gallery that became La Luz de Jesus with me back in the 80's? I can't recall if the name was different, but I have periodically visited it since then. I live down the street from it.
ReplyDeleteI hope the year goes well.
I remember going to some pretty cool places with you back then! How fun for you to live right down the street, I will have to visit if I come down.
ReplyDeleteI witnessed your hair on fire! I wish you much luck and strength for year of the dragon. I hope your perseverance and creativity pay you many exciting dividends in 2012. Julie L
